Typography

So this week, I started a typography course. Type has always fascinated me. I struggle with it all the time and was dying to learn it's nuances. As they say typography is 95% of graphic design. I'm yet to conclude whether that is all true.

But we are having fun in class. We have an extremely bohemian teacher, who knows a lot and I'm beginning to feel that I will slowly turn into a type geek.

This was our first assignment - To create a poster, A3 size, black & white, completing the sentence: Typography is.
This was my first iteration:

Lets see what happens next.

I am in a huge hurry to complete my portfolio so that I can send in my applications for internships. This is the result of all that chaos.

NGMA, Bangalore

This was my first visit to NGMA. I've been in Bangalore for over six months now and I really should have visited earlier. I did fall in love with the place. It is beautiful. Green all around with these lovely white buildings. The gallery wasn't open, so that is left for another visit.

I was there for the Lekhana literary festival. I managed to sit through two English book readings and three Marathi ones. I must say I enjoyed the experience. I understood the English book reading much more (my Marathi is really weak) One was of Sita's Ramayana by Samhita Arni and the other by Jahnavi Barua from her book, Rebirth. Both very well written if I can judge from the excerpts that the authors read.

Beautiful place, isn't it !

Pages from my sketch book

So I love my sketchbook. I picked it up at the Bangkok airport with the lest few baht I had. It has a pretty cover (will post that some other day) and reasonably thick paper inside. It's almost full. These are some of the pages:

Whenever I find a nice quote, I write it down in my sketch book and then doodle around it.

This was made at a stay-over at my ex-roomie's place. I cooked chicken (it was delicious) and we mocked the latest episode of Roadies.

Another fabulous quote :)

I also happen to love intricate patterns. Spent hours doing this one.

Yes, I do have a foot fetish. I can sketch feet anytime of the day.

This last one was made at Alliance Francaise de Bangalore. I was there over a weekend to volunteer for a theatre production. I helped with ticketing, ushering etc. It was great fun. I met a lot of like-minded people, was introduced to a new band - Parwaaz (lovely music) and did some networking too. It was a nice new experience.

Shadow-play

Dug out this old photo I took one lovely evening, a few years back. I was persuaded to enter this for a photo competition on FB. Go like it HERE if you really like it.

Sigh, I miss home. I miss my balcony, I miss the plants and the thandi hawa. I miss it all.

1900 Calendar

I made this calendar for an assignment - History of Graphic Design. Everyone had to choose one year and make a calendar about the graphic design scene in that particular year. It seemed like a really fun assignment at first, till none of us could find enough info to put into the calendar. And it was supposed to be A3 size. Panic ensued, but then I got researching and after a few days felt comfortable enough to start. It took me 3 hours just to illustrate the cover. I was mighty happy with the final product.
